MY FIRST GUARATTELLE
Pulcinella tells Pulcinella
Neapolitan guarattelle, for everyone

Fall 1978: with his last show, Nunzio Zampella put an end to the guarattelle tradition. I met him in December. I did everything I could to get him to tell me the secret of Punchinello's voice and to at least tell me the sketches of the shows. Nothing. Pulcinella was dead and was not to be reborn. In February 1979 I went to Milan. The Civica Scuola d'arte Drammatica had a video with the maestro's last interview. I saw what the pivetta looked like and among many things the scenes of the confession and hanging. Excited, I did not sleep at night and on the Milan-Naples train I wrote the entire script of my first play. I prepared the pivot, showed it to the maestro who corrected it for me. For the canovacci nothing to do. So I finished the puppets on the morning of May 1, 1979, and in the afternoon I did my first show. A marvel that enchanted everyone. In July I was at the Cervia and Reggio Emilia festivals with this show. It wasn't until September that Nunzio was convinced to show me the ancient canovacci in the square. But here begins another story.

MY FIRST GUARATTELLE
Punchinello tells Punchinello
Autumn 1978: with his last show, Nunzio Zampella puts an end to the tradition of guarattelle. I met him in December. I did everything for him to reveal the secret of Pulcinella's voice and at least tell me the plots of the shows. Nothing. Pulcinella was dead and was not to be reborn. In February 1979 I went to Milan. The Civica Scuola d'arte Drammatica had a video with the master's last interview. I saw how the quiver was made and among many other things also the scenes of the confession and the hanging. Excited, I didn't sleep at night and on the Milan-Naples train I wrote the entire screenplay for my first show. I prepared the quiver, showed it to the master who corrected it for me. For the tea towels nothing to do. So I finished the puppets on the morning of May 1, 1979 and in the afternoon I had my first show. A marvel that enchanted everyone. In July I was at the Cervia and Reggio Emilia festivals with this show. Only in September was Nunzio convinced to show me the old tea towels in the square. But here another story begins.
