Punchinello, Harlequin and the Fantastic City
WorkshopComedy
PULCINELLA, ARLECCHINO and THE FANTASTIC CITY.
Commedia dell'arte, for everyone
Sunday, May 28, 10:00 a.m. - Artificerie Almagià
by and with Angela Dionisia Severino and Paola Maria Cacace
After many, many years, Harlequin and Punchinello meet: they are about to deliver a plan to remake the city of Naples, "which is just a fetish like this," as Punchinello says. Pulcinella dreams of a city with services for those who have nothing. Harlequin, sent to Naples by Pantalone, brings with him a plan to remake the city in an exclusively productive sense, privatizing Vesuvius, castles and mountains. Starting with Italo Calvino's The Invisible Cities and research works on masks, the show proposes a synthesis between the current need to rewrite urban spaces and the postures and irony of the Commedia dell'Arte. The languages used are those of mime, acrobatics and the lazzi of Commedia. Harlequin and Punchinello's ideas are multiplied when the spectators are asked to draw their own fantasy city. The performance will lead to the elaboration of a collective fantasy city, in which everyone's dreams will find a place.
OfficinaCommedia was born from the artistic encounter between Paola Maria Cacace and Angela Dionisia Severino, who in 2015 worked together in a Commedia dell'Arte company. Starting from common studies of mime, dance and clown, they deepen their research by approaching figure theater and mask making together They collaborate with master masqueraders, directors and musicians to create interdependent paths, where masks, puppets and clown work merge with other languages.

PULCINELLA, ARLECCHINO and THE FANTASTIC CITY.
After many, many years, Harlequin and Pulcinella meet: they are about to deliver a project to redo the city of Naples, "which is just a fetenzia" as Pulcinella says. Pulcinella dreams of a city with services for those who have nothing. Harlequin, sent to Naples by Pantalone, brings with him a project to redo the city in an exclusively productive sense, privatizing Vesuvius, the castles and the mountains. Starting from Italo Calvino's Invisible Cities and the research on masks, the show offers a synthesis between the current need to rewrite urban spaces and postures and the irony of the Commedia dell'Arte. The languages used are those of mime, acrobatics and comedy jokes. The ideas of Arlecchino and Pulcinella multiply when the spectators are asked to draw their fantastic city. The show will lead to the elaboration of a collective fantastic city, in which everyone's dreams will find a place.
