Among the projects awarded by the first edition of the European Festivals Fund for Emerging Artists EFFEA was also "Sixth sense theater," which is led by Ravenna-based Festival Arrivano dal Mare! in collaboration with Finland and Slovenia
The International Puppets Festival Arrivano dal Mare!, under the artistic direction of Teatro del Drago, celebrates theEFFEA Grant milestone for the "Sixth Sense Theatre" project. The project takes its cue from the performance and research activity of young Ukrainian researcher and director Kateryna Lukianenko and is realized in collaboration with Daria Ivanova (UNIMA Union Internationale de la Marionnette) and the Summer Puppet Tier (Slovenia) and SAMPO Festival (Finland). The project involves hosting the Ukrainian artist in residence at the partner festivals and creating workshops and performance outcomes dedicated to sensory theater and designed to allow accessibility for differently-abled audiences, particularly blind spectators. An important opportunity to bring to Italy and the countries of the partner festivals an innovative research experience on the topic of accessibility, to establish new trans-territorial connections and collaborations, as well as to protect the work of endangered artists and workers. Sixth Sense Theatre will thus enrich the 48th edition of the Festival Arrivano dal Mare!, which will take place May 19-28, 2023 with the subtitle What we talk about when we talk about love.: a project that intends to put a new focus, by artists as well as audiences, on the issues of accessibility and inclusivity, triggering a shared path of research in the sense of an art that really knows how to make itself an inclusive and barrier-free communicative medium, an issue that Teatro del Drago has been dealing with for years with diversified projects aimed at extremely different target audiences. Finally, the recognition obtained through EFFEA will know how to consolidate a network of international collaborations built over the years and vital to the pursuit of common European goals.
