Journey into Dante's Inferno
Journey into Dante's Inferno
The workshop "Between light and darkness, a journey through Dante's Inferno" is intended to be a training course on the specific technique of animation on black and at the same time a process of research and experimentation in which the artists involved can introduce their specific features, their suggestions and their imagery.
The starting point will be Dante'sInferno , a famous text, rich in suggestions and multiple imaginative dimensions. Starting from the analysis of some of the Cantos and drawing inspiration from the rich pictorial iconography that has crossed the centuries, we will work on the need to transpose the text into images, arriving at the creation of a performance open to the public during the Festival Arrivano dal Mare.
The work will be divided into three phases: the first to discover the specific technique of animation on black, the second dedicated to experimentation and to the construction of the materials necessary for staging, the third focused on the work of composition and creation of images.
During the workshop, thanks to Matteo Moglianesi's help, we will give space to the study of the lighting necessary for animation on black, trying to investigate and deepen the various possibilities by giving importance to the dramaturgy of light within a composition of images. Furthermore, we wish to include another fundamental aspect of the creation of a show, a performance or a stage act: the composition of music. In the last week of work, we will give space to the study of the processes of composition of musical pieces necessary for the scenic action, thanks to the intervention of the musician/composer Andrea Ferrario; We will try to understand the value of suspensions and silences, the need for changes of rhythm, the importance of music, since, in animation on black and more generally in animation theatre, as in dance and in the arts of the stage where the body and the images are the protagonists, the musical score is of fundamental importance, like a real script, it accompanies the images and enhances the atmospheres and enchantments. Finally, part of the work will be dedicated to the construction of the scenic elements, starting from the materials and objects available. The final representation will be configured in the setting up of an exhibition that narrates the creative process and the representation of a site-specific performance, possibly itinerant, that is demonstrative of the experiments and suggestions elaborated during the work.
