YAY FOR PANETTONE
by and with Valerio Saccà
Puppet theater, for all
Friday, May 19, 5 p.m. - Longiano, Rio Parco Budrio
King Smeraldo is worried about his daughter Diamantina who is always ill, so to try to heal her he ordered Minister Tartaglia to go in search of the three Wise Men; but as soon as they arrive at court their funny remedies prove to be unsuccessful: only Meneghino and Harlequin will manage to heal the Princess with a portentous cure! A funny traditional comedy all to be "enjoyed" in front of a slice of Panettone.
Valerio Saccà. A puppeteer and sculptor, he carries on the puppet tradition of the Lombard school. He began the craft at a very young age by recovering the now-forgotten Meneghino Mask, a Milanese character, and after producing his first shows he made it a protagonist at major industry festivals. He honed his theatrical and sculpture techniques alongside great masters such as Giacomo Onofrio, Natale Panaro and Daniele Cortesi, his real point of reference. At the age of 34, Valerio is now not only one of the youngest puppeteers in Italy, but also one of the very few who carries on a historical, artistic, artisan and identity tradition for the city of Milan that was in danger of disappearing. Valerio's puppets are born from very careful historical research and strictly reflect the tradition. Valerio founded La Casa di Meneghino, a research center whose goal is to disseminate material inherent to Meneghino Pecenna, Mask of Milan. Valerio researched and acquired a very important number of scripts, playbills, postcards, books, and images, coming to possess one of the most important archival collections on Meneghino and the art of puppetry in northern Italy from 1809 to 1960: the Aldrighi Fund. Together with Gaspare Nasuto, he founded the MIPE - Puppet Experience, an experimental center for advanced puppet training, where, in addition to making sculptures, the ritual and original meanings of this language are innovatively analyzed. In November 2022 an exhibition was organized in Milan, in collaboration with ANPI and Famiglia Meneghina at the House of Memory, entirely dedicated to Meneghino and the Milanese puppet tradition. A documentary by Italo Sordi on Valerio Aldrighi, produced by Regione Lombardia, will be released in May 2023.
